The Department of Civil Engineering at NIT Rourkela inaugurated the '30th International Conference on Hydraulics, Water Resources, River and Coastal Engineering (HYDRO International 2025)' under the aegis of the Indian Society for Hydraulics (ISH).
The three-day multidisciplinary conference from 18–20 December 2025 is bringing together over 500 national and international experts, academicians, researchers, scientists and industry professionals to deliberate on recent advances, emerging challenges and practical solutions in hydraulics, hydrology, water resources, river and coastal engineering, and climate-resilient water systems. The conference covers a wide range of thematic areas, including computational hydraulics, river and groundwater hydrology, dams, irrigation, coastal engineering, climate change impacts, and smart water management.
The inaugural session of the event was graced by Prof. Vinod Tare, Founding Head & Advisor of the Center for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (Project cGanga), along with Smt. Anu Garg, IAS, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Water Resources, Planning & Convergence, Govt. of Odisha, as the Special Guests. Other dignitaries present during the inaugural event were Prof. A.K. Turuk, Dean Academics, NIT Rourkela; Prof. S.P. Singh, HoD, Civil Engineering, NIT Rourkela; Prof. P.L. Patel, President, The Indian Society for Hydraulics; Prof. Kishanjit Kumar Khatua, Chairman and Coordinator, along with Prof. Sanat Nalini Sahoo, Organising Secretary, HYDRO international 2025.
The event also features the ISH Lifetime Achievement Award, jointly conferred on Prof. Kanhu Charan Patra (Retd.) from NIT Rourkela and Prof. Subhasish Dey, Visiting Professor from IIT Gandhinagar, along with other ISH awards. Other award recipients include:
