“I thought I knew why he left…” A few months ago, one of our employees resigned. The transition appeared smooth, and we wished him success in his future career. Recently, I met someone from another organization who had worked with him after he left. During our conversation, I heard different versions of the story surrounding his resignation. Some comments were unfair to the employee, while others created misconceptions about the company. That experience reinforced my belief that every organization should conduct a structured exit interview through a fair and impartial committee, rather than relying solely on the employee’s direct supervisor. A balanced exit interview committee can: ✅ Allow employees to speak openly without fear of bias. ✅ Ensure that feedback is recorded objectively and professionally. ✅ Protect the rights, reputation, and interests of both the employee and the organization. ✅ Identify genuine workplace issues that may otherwise remain hidden. ✅ Reduce misunderstandings, rumors, and inaccurate narratives after an employee leaves. An employee’s final experience with a company matters. A transparent and respectful exit process demonstrates professionalism, strengthens organizational credibility, and preserves relationships long after employment ends. People leave organizations, but their experiences and stories remain. It is the responsibility of leadership to ensure those stories are built on facts, fairness, and mutual respect. A fair exit interview committee is not just an HR process—it is a safeguard for both the company and its people. #Leadership #HumanResources #ExitInterview #EmployeeExperience #WorkplaceCulture #PeopleManagement #HRLeadership #OrganizationalCulture #EmployeeRelations #CorporateGovernance #LeadershipMatters

Skilled employees are the lifeblood of organizational success. To retain top talent, companies must deeply understand what keeps employees engaged and what drives them to leave. A thoughtful exit interview process - whether conducted face-to-face, through a questionnaire, survey, or combination - can be invaluable. It can sharpen leadership's listening skills, expose internal strengths and weaknesses, uncover hidden opportunities, and provide vital competitive intelligence. Most importantly, exit interviews signal to departing employees that their perspectives are valued. This can boost morale, enhance retention, and even transform former staff into long-term corporate ambassadors. #ExitInterview #HumanResources #EmployeeEngagement
