Today, the men and women of your Los Angeles Fire Department honor the memory of Kelly Wong, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on June 5, 2017.
Firefighter Kelly Wong, just 29 years old, sustained critical injuries after falling from an aerial ladder during a training exercise in Downtown LA on June 3, 2017. Despite immediate aid from his fellow firefighters and the tireless work of medical professionals, he passed away two days later.
A dedicated public servant and a rising star in the fire service, Kelly was a two-year LAFD veteran assigned to Fire Station 92. He was just days away from transferring to Fire Station 9, his dream assignment, where he would have served the Skid Row community alongside his closest friends.
Beyond the uniform, Kelly was a scholar, athlete, outdoorsman, and devoted husband and father. His wife, Danielle, has shared that he had a deep passion for learning, firefighting, and aviation. He was working toward his private pilot’s license and aspired to earn a master’s degree in public administration. 2025 marks what would have been Kelly’s 10th anniversary with the LAFD, and we mourn all he planned to accomplish in a decade.
We remember Kelly not just for how he died, but for how he lived -- with purpose and heart. His devotion to his family, his community, and his fellow firefighters continues to inspire us all.
We miss you every day, brother.
