🚨 The Trump administration cut foreign aid by 16%, signing a spending bill that allocates $50 billion for international assistance in 2026 — $9.3 billion less than current levels.
The administration has made clear that countries receiving U.S. foreign aid while consistently voting against America at the United Nations are a central frustration driving the overhaul. Congress has included provisions in recent legislation calling for a formal review of UN voting practices, a move that could directly tie aid eligibility to diplomatic alignment with U.S. interests.
The reforms go beyond the budget. The Trump administration withdrew the U.S. from 66 international organizations — including 31 United Nations groups — and dismantled the United States Agency for International Development, the 64-year-old agency that had long administered America's foreign assistance programs.
In 2025, President Trump also secured Congressional approval for a rescissions package canceling $14 billion in foreign assistance previously appropriated by Congress. The administration's position is that American taxpayer dollars should benefit nations that stand with the United States, not against it.
