Without typos How Streeting reaches the 81 MPs Starmer would prefer not to face Burnham in a head 2 membership ballot some of his supporters “lend” their votes to WS and be joined by pro WS and AOBB MPs 81 is easily reached Starmer doesn’t need 81 MPs etc

A good piece This is very telling about how much the fight against Reform has changed “We're worried about Reform getting out their voters," one senior Labour source told us Back in 2023 they had virtually no effective GOTV campaign And yes getting your vote out still matters
New: Some really interesting stuff here from @BobJWilliams including what could happen next if Burnham wins. This stands out: "Starmer can go out in a bloody mess and get battered, which is embarrassing, or he can take the dignified route through legacy". manchestereveningnews.co.uk/…

4% see the party as united in wanting a leadership contest 😀
I'm rather amused by the 4%. I mean, let's be honest, Labour is gearing up for a leadership contest, and Starmer is already fighting for his political survival. This is basically "79% of Britons now see water as wet."

And if he says two days after 2029 general election - would that be acceptable Anything else would paralyse the current government and nothing would progress (I know. Honestly I know!)

To quote the late JP as I haven’t for a while: “Glasman. You know sod all about politics, economic policy, Labour or solidarity. Bugger off”
Labour peer Lord Glasman tells Sky's @cathynewman Sir Keir Starmer’s government lacks a “clear strategic direction" and says he would welcome a leadership contest Watch the full interview: trib.al/x6Dtrn7

Probably my favourite photo of Jo Cox today - speaks to so much more than politics Sadly I made the mistake of scrolling through the replies
It’s been 10 years. I’ve been thinking of Jo today. Her legacy lives on as we strive to achieve the change she believed in - and worked for.

I admit, the thought of David coming back reminds me of the call for Spurs to appoint a triumvirate of Redknapp, Sherwood and Hoddle last season.

Yeah, I've long since lost any interest whatsoever in anything Glasman has to offer.

Even after a leadership contest there will be bad blood everywhere for the rest of the term. Insane why MPs choose to combust like this
