#AI & AI-led governance is the future and #UP is understanding it too well. @UPGovt is furthering this via three-way collaboration b/w the state government, IBM and IIT-Kanpur. The recent inauguration of the state-of-the-art #IBM_AIGovTech_Innovation_Centre by @myogiadityanath at the Platinum Mall, Sushant Golf City, Lucknow dedicated to #Generative_AI & #Agentic_AI is certainly a boost to the overall AI atmosphere in the state. This new facility to use AI-powered solutions using #LLMs ( Large Language Models) and #SLMs (Small Language Models) and serve as a collaborative platform to design, validate & scale AI solutions aimed at improving productivity, transparency & service delivery. IBM has also signed two MoUs with @UPGovt wrt developing AI-based applications across govt. departments as well as introducing an AI Literacy programme for students in grades 6-12 and their teachers, equipping them with foundational knowledge to build future-ready skilled human capital. Earlier, IBM had also installed 🇮🇳India's first computer at IIT-Kanpur. Also, UP Govt. has made budgetary provisions for #Centre_of_Excellence in Robotics at IIT-Kanpur. And, IIT Kanpur is also prepared to collaborate in establishing a facility for #Quantum_Computing in Noida. Apart from this, the state's first semiconductor unit under the #India_Semiconductor_Mission is being set up in Noida (#HCL & #Foxconn joint-venture) for manufacturing display driver chips for various gadgets. Vision of the @UPGovt is to make UP a leader in deep tech. And, they are going after this through various different but integrated approach. The journey from once the #BIMARU state tag, to now a role model state for others to follow has been a complete rollercoaster ride. @Nature recently published an #interview about the increasing use of #generative_AI for the creation of scientific images and covers, and I took part in it!😊 My colleagues, #artists Rita Clare and @ChizhikAlexey, are worried that the use of AI for scientific illustration can increase #public_mistrust in science. The generated images usually look unrealistic and can lead to the perception of an article as something unrealistic too... One of the major issues is that AI can’t create images of things it hasn’t seen during training. Even if you try to describe your discovery, it will not come up with a proper visualization because it didn't "see" images like the ones you describe in order to re-create them. Only a professional artist, working closely with researchers, can create visuals that come close to reality. Just look at various #dinosaur illustrations and try to guess which ones were made by human artists, you’ll notice which feel grounded in science and which are just imagination.🌈 NB! I’m not saying AI should be banned from artistic work altogether. What I believe is that journals and institutions should create clear #guidelines about when and how AI can be used.
