Ethiopia took part in this year's Digital Public Infrastructure
#DPISummit2025.
#TeamFayda had an inspiring knowledge exchange, sharing Ethiopia’s journey in building impactful digital public infrastructure.
In a standout session on what enables, or holds back, population-scale adoption of
#DPI, our Executive Director,
@YodaheZemichael , said, “High-level Political commitment is foundational, but it must be matched with delivery capacity.” This pointed to a powerful reminder that strong leadership combined with internal capacity, operational strength, and follow-through are what make digital infrastructure truly work at scale.
Betlhem Mergia
@BMergia, Monitoring and Evaluation Director, highlighted how concrete evidence drives effective action through the innovative "Fayda Lab" research initiative. Reflecting on the 2024 workshop, she explained: “The workshop inspired a series of targeted studies exploring crucial areas like inclusion, financial access, social protection, and refugee services.” She added, "These studies are already showing exactly how digital identity can make service delivery more efficient and equitable. We are committed to actively turning these insights into action, ensuring Fayda remains
#inclusive,
#impactful, and a
#globalmodel for digital public infrastructure."
And on another session about the transformative impact of digital public infrastructure for advancing children’s rights, Rahel Kassa, Legal and Policy Advisor and Gender & Inclusivity Focal Person, shared: “Through strong partnerships,
#Fayda is now linked with education, health, and social protection systems. It is also being linked with civil registration systems ensuring every child can access essential services with a trusted, lifelong digital ID. Over 27 million people are registered, of whom 40% are women and 19% are children. Fayda empowers mothers and caregivers, who are mostly the gateways to children's inclusion, and plays an important role in protecting children from early marriage, trafficking, and labor, and in safeguarding their other rights.”
From high-level political commitment to evidence-based research,
#Ethiopia is showing how digital identity and DPI can unlock rights, opportunity, and
#inclusionforall.
