What is the Global Privacy Assembly?
The Global Privacy Assembly (GPA) is the leading international forum for privacy and data-protection authorities. Founded in 1979, it unites 130 regulators and observers from over 80 countries to set standards, share best practices, and address global digital-privacy challenges.
Kenya’s selection to host the 49th GPA in 2027 underscores the nation’s growing role as a global leader in digital governance and privacy innovation.

The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner is thrilled to announce that Kenya has been officially selected to host the 49th Global Privacy Assembly (GPA) in 2027.
This historic decision was unveiled today at the ongoing 47th GPA in Seoul, South Korea, placing Kenya at the forefront of global dialogue on data protection, privacy, and digital rights.
Hosting the GPA underscores Kenya’s commitment to:
✅ World-class data protection standards
✅ Innovation in digital governance
✅ Strengthening privacy as a fundamental human right
We look forward to welcoming regulators, policymakers, industry leaders, and privacy advocates from across the globe to Nairobi in 2027. Together, we will shape the future of data privacy for Africa and the world.

@ODPC_KE will be participating in the Annual Global Privacy Assembly in Jersey, Channel Islands, from Oct 28 - Nov 1, 2024 This year's theme, ‘The Power of AI’ will focus on eight core pillars of Information, Individuals, Independence, Integrity, Indigenous, Intercultural, International and Innovation.
Data Commissioner @ikassait will participate in the plenary session on “How do Indigenous communities develop their own Data Protection frameworks?” which will explore how indigenous communities develop their own Data Protection frameworks and assess the potential harms from an intercultural and indigenous perspective.
The participation of the ODPC in this event allows us to engage with global leaders in data protection, share best practices, and advocate for the rights of individuals in an increasingly digital world. By collaborating on these important themes, we can better understand the challenges and opportunities that come with data privacy, ensuring that our policies reflect the needs and values of our communities.
