Completed as the new home for Hudson Valley Shakespeare, the Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center brings performance and landscape into a single architectural experience. The open-air theater is sheltered beneath a sweeping mass-timber gridshell inspired by the surrounding hills and the motion of bird wings, while the stage opens directly toward the Hudson Highlands.
The project also includes rehearsal spaces, education facilities, and restored natural habitats integrated into the site. Built with low-carbon mass timber and designed with rainwater harvesting, solar energy systems, and ecological restoration strategies, the theater reimagines how cultural architecture can exist in dialogue with nature.
