Initially the phrase slippery slope took my thoughts to the slippery slope time is relative scenario that we've landed ourselves in re our very real extremely serious climate change problems; I'll get back to that side of things in a minute, in this moment I feel like touching base on the right to bare arms side of things. Our police forces, I have no issues with them being “appropriately armed" as long as our police forces are "rock solid" right down to their "core values" as our police forces. I do however have a problem with all of us being armed to the teeth simply because we can be. I walk into say a nightclub with a high powered weapon, how much damage could I potentially do before a heap of folk basically jump on me and sort me out? I walk into that same nightclub with a knife in hand, how much damage could I potentially do before a heap of folk basically jump on me and sort me out? I reside in a country where the gun control laws are quite strong, no doubts the odd sad scenario plays out but compared to some countries like say America the possibility of being caught up in a gun violence related incident are quite low. For this I'm thankful, I cannot imagine myself being comfortable with having to be concerned about who's armed to the teeth with a or many high powered weapons at any given point in time. The whole idea of free speech side of things, I'm in favour of it but I don't think it should be an open slather anything goes sort of scenario. To ask me there needs needs to guardrails, guidelines, a code of conduct, policies in place or the whole idea of free speech could potentially be used in ways that would be detrimental to the lot of us. A pretty obvious example would be all the misinformation and disinformation that's getting around under the banner of free speech these days on multimedia platforms like the one we're on currently re our very real extremely serious climate change problems, problems that if left unaddressed will be a mammoth like problem for our species on an "intergenerational level". We're decades beyond the climate change is a scam stage, we're in if we don't address the situation head on together as a "global community" we'll be in a right spot of bother on an "intergenerational level" territory. Anyway, I'll keep moving re its near 1am local time so its time for me to get some shut-eye time in.
