The @mayorofhackney and @sfajanathomas have issued a joint statement on reports of a hate letter being sent to a Turkish mosque in Hackney following the tragic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria 1/2
ALT Hackney has a proud history of bringing people of all religions and backgrounds together and we are sickened by the reports of the letter that has been sent. This doesnβt reflect the community spirit that exists in the borough or the sense of shock and heartbreak of the tragic scenes that we have seen in Turkey and Syria following the earthquake. Some of our residents may have lost family and loved ones in the earthquake. We must not let the kind of hatred contained in the letters cloud the support the people of this area need from us and the rest of the world at this moment

Great to see volunteers supporting @HackneyFoodbank at Tesco Wells Street E9 #Hackney 2day. Handing out wee slips of paper asking directly for much needed items. I actively saw customers in the store looking at what to buy. It was like Supermarket Sweep! @Tesco #HackneySpirit
