🇪🇬 A monumental leap for Africa’s health future! At @Africahealthex1, Egypt made history as the first @_AfricanUnion Member State to officially join the African Pooled Procurement Mechanism (#APPM). This bold step marks a new era of collaboration, empowering Africa to secure its own health destiny. With this commitment, we move closer to a continent where essential health products are accessible, local manufacturing is strengthened, and #HealthSecurity is a reality for all. As @Dr_JeanKaseya, Director General of Africa CDC, stated: “APPM is the turning point, where we shift the narrative from fragmented procurement to manufacturing sovereignty and health security.” Congratulations to Egypt for leading the way! Let’s inspire more AU Member States to join this transformative journey. 🔗 Press release: ow.ly/oGju50Zc91i @mohpegypt @UPA_Egypt #HealthSovereignty #LocalManufacturing #Agenda2063 #AfricaResponds

🇨🇩 Ebola Response Intensifies in Eastern DRC As efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak accelerate in Ituri Province, Military Governor Major General Kasongo Mulumba Gaby arrived in Bunia to strengthen coordination of response activities. Supporting the response, AFENET has deployed an additional team of field epidemiologists to work alongside health authorities in surveillance, case investigation, contact tracing, and outbreak control in the affected health zones of Nyakunde, Mungwalu, and Rwampara. With eastern DRC facing both public health and security challenges, rapid deployment of skilled responders remains critical to interrupting transmission and protecting communities. #EbolaResponse #DRC #AFENET #FieldEpidemiology #HealthSecurity #OutbreakResponse

@Amref_Kenya joined a meeting convened by @MOH_Kenya for implementing partners to discuss how to enhance the country's preparedness against Ebola (EVD). With the support of the U.S. Government, Amref's Imarisha Jamii programme is helping Kenya prepare so that if a case is ever suspected or confirmed, our health system can act fast to protect everyone. Director General @DrPatrickAmoth put it simply: a strong, resilient health system is what keeps Kenyans safe ready to respond quickly and effectively if the need arises. Thanks to U.S. Government support, this work focuses on four areas: 🔹Rapid response - training health workers to spot, track and contain cases early, and standing up teams that can scale up quickly. 🔹Infection control - equipping health facilities, preparing isolation spaces, building up protective equipment, and keeping care safe for patients and staff. 🔹Community awareness - sharing trusted information so families know how to protect themselves and what to do in an emergency. 🔹Coordination - connecting national and county teams and partners across borders so everyone responds as one. At the heart of it all are communities. Through our Community Health Promoters across Kenya, Amref has built trusted relationships over decades and outbreaks are stopped fastest when people trust their health workers and their health system. @StateDept @NPHIKenya #EbolaPreparedness #HealthSecurity #ImarishaJamii

Kenya Protests Israeli Travel Restrictions Over Ebola Concerns Kenya has formally protested Israel’s decision to impose travel restrictions on passengers arriving from the country over Ebola-related concerns, arguing that the move is not supported by available public health data. Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei described Kenya’s inclusion on the list of affected countries as unjustified, noting that the country has not recorded a single confirmed Ebola case despite extensive surveillance and testing efforts. Taking to social media on June 15, 2026, Sing’Oei said Kenya had conducted more than 80,000 Ebola tests while maintaining robust regional surveillance systems, yet no infections had been detected within the country. “Kenya strongly protests the decision by Israel to include the country amongst those whose travellers it will restrict,” he stated. The diplomatic disagreement follows a directive issued by Israeli authorities requiring airlines to deny boarding to passengers travelling from several African countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The directive also applies to foreign nationals who have visited any of the listed countries within the previous 21 days, regardless of their nationality. Israeli citizens and permanent residents are exempt from the restrictions. Israeli authorities cited precautionary public health concerns linked to Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa, despite confirming that no Ebola cases have been reported within Israel itself. Kenya has argued that its public health response has been proactive and effective. The government has strengthened border screening, enhanced laboratory testing capacity and coordinated closely with regional partners to monitor potential Ebola threats. Officials maintain that the country’s surveillance systems have successfully prevented any confirmed Ebola transmission within Kenya. The decision has reignited debate about how countries balance legitimate public health precautions against the potential economic, diplomatic and reputational consequences of broad travel restrictions. For Kenya, the concern extends beyond travel inconvenience. Officials argue that placing countries with no confirmed Ebola cases on restricted travel lists risks undermining confidence in public health systems that have invested heavily in disease surveillance and preparedness. As global health authorities continue monitoring Ebola outbreaks in affected regions, Kenya is expected to continue engaging Israel diplomatically in an effort to have the restrictions reviewed. #Kenya #Israel #Ebola #KorirSingOei #ForeignAffairs #PublicHealth #TravelRestrictions #Diplomacy #GlobalHealth #Africa #Aviation #BorderSecurity #HealthSecurity #KenyaNews #GenoStyle
