It takes a ton of mental gymnastics to get around the reality of it, but man, some are determined to try. Yes, I have begun to see my own personal interactions with the supernatural parts of our world as blessings in disguise, even though they were extremely difficult—but being aware of the reality has let me to see so much more clearly. Heiser was such a godsend for me when talking about this with other Christians, too. Finally someone with a DR before their name was talking about it! LOL

I love Heiser’s response to the Sethite view. It requires that you believe the “sons of God”were the only believers and were all male before the flood. And only male believers from one lineage. And if they were from a righteous lineage why were they destroyed in the flood?! Were all the women unrighteous from that lineage? The text never says the daughters were of Cain. The context of Genesis 6:1-5 is Mesopotamian religion (apkallu). Some of that context is recent, but many (if not most) pastors and leaders never update their views. I don’t think many preachers continue to do research and adapt as they receive new information. Heiser mentions an essay called On the Origin of the Watchers by Amar Annus which you can find online. Augustine turned away from this reading of the text. The Septuagint and Dead Sea scrolls preserve the idea the sons of God were divine beings. Explicitly! Our supernatural world has been obscured by people afraid of it.

Yeah I'm sure an academic who's built his career on ripping off Michael Heiser and other bad Protestant scholars is going to say "my entire career has been a lie" if I talk to him very, very nicely. Lol get real.

Ever wonder if Eden was more than just a garden? This clip breaks down the fascinating theory that Eden was actually a temple city where heaven met earth. A must-watch for biblical history buffs. #Eden #BibleStudy #AncientHistory #Heiser

And the Unitarian you were addressing agrees with you (Heiser) 1000%, as do most non-Trinitarian groups. So, since you denounced the Trinitarian implications of 26, does this mean the God who *singularly* creates in 27 is not a Trinity?

Here’s the NET Bible notes on Genesis 1:26 for those who think I’m making this up or it’s outta left field (don’t tell @5Solas that the NET Bible he likes agrees with Heiser): “The plural form of the verb has been the subject of much discussion through the years, and not surprisingly several suggestions have been put forward. Many Christian theologians interpret it as an early hint of plurality within the Godhead, but this view imposes later trinitarian concepts on the ancient text. Some have suggested the plural verb indicates majesty, but the plural of majesty is not used with verbs. C. Westermann (Genesis, 1:145) argues for a plural of “deliberation” here, but his proposed examples of this use (2 Sam 24:14; Isa 6:8) do not actually support his theory. In 2 Sam 24:14 David uses the plural as representative of all Israel, and in Isa 6:8 the Lord speaks on behalf of his heavenly court. In its ancient Israelite context the plural is most naturally understood as referring to God and his heavenly court (see 1 Kgs 22:19-22; Job 1:6-12; 2:1-6; Isa 6:1-8). (The most well-known members of this court are God’s messengers, or angels. In Gen 3:5 the serpent may refer to this group as “gods/divine beings.” See the note on the word “evil” in 3:5.) If this is the case, God invites the heavenly court to participate in the creation of humankind (perhaps in the role of offering praise, see Job 38:7), but he himself is the one who does the actual creative work (v. 27). Of course, this view does assume that the members of the heavenly court possess the divine “image” in some way. Since the image is closely associated with rulership, perhaps they share the divine image in that they, together with God and under his royal authority, are the executive authority over the world.”
Trinitarian here. The plurals in Genesis 1:26 are not the Trinity. It’s God announcing to His heavenly host who also bear His image that He’s going to make humanity. That’s why v27 is singular when the creating occurs. Happy to help you out there. You still need to repent of your heresy and become a Christian though.

It's all about spiritual warfare. If it's an interest to anyone reading this who doesn't know much about it if anything at all, look up Dr. Michael Heiser and his credentials and what he teaches. He has made his peer reviewed research amongst other scholars free to the public, although he does sell material also. His lectures are all over YouTube.
