Haybe Cabdiraxmaan Nur. Conviction Date: October 2025. Pleaded guilty to murder at Derby Crown Court. After his UK asylum application had been rejected, he entered a local high street bank and launched a random, unprovoked knife attack, resulting in a life sentence with a 25-year minimum. Victim: Gurvinder Singh Johal (known as Danny), a 37-year-old restaurant owner who was stabbed while withdrawing money inside a Lloyds Bank branch in Derby.
Warsame Ahmed Mohamed. Conviction Date: July 2019. A Somali national and illegal immigrant who fled the country after a killing but was later extradited. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and violent disorder at Birmingham Crown Court for his role in a street assault. Victim: Zakir Nawaz, a 21-year-old father who was fatally stabbed in the chest following a minor road traffic confrontation in Washwood Heath, Birmingham.
Ali Harbi Ali. Conviction Date: 11 April 2022. Convicted at the Old Bailey of murder and preparation of terrorist acts following a politically and ideologically motivated attack. He was sentenced to a whole-life tariff. Victim: Sir David Amess, a 69-year-old serving Conservative MP, who was stabbed multiple times during a constituency meeting in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.
Mohamed Noor. Conviction Date: March 2017. Convicted of murder at Luton Crown Court. Involved in a regional drug gang, Noor discharged a firearm through a ground-floor window as part of a botched retaliation plot against a rival. He received life with a 30-year minimum. Victim: Suhaib Mohammed, a 19-year-old who had recently arrived in the UK from Somalia. He was not the intended target and was killed as innocent "collateral damage" inside the property in Milton Keynes.
Khalid Nur. Conviction Date: June 2024. One of four men convicted at Reading Crown Court of a premeditated gang-related murder. The group chased down and ambushed the victim in a "senseless" street attack. Nur was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 26 years. Victim: Kyron Lee, a 21-year-old cyclist who was fatally knocked off his bicycle and stabbed to death in Slough in October 2022.
Mohamed Adaw. Conviction Date: 2 June 2026. Convicted of murder at the Old Bailey following a Metropolitan Police investigation. Adaw orchestrated and ordered a targeted hit on the victim, deploying a masked co-defendant dressed in dark motorcycle gear to execute the attack. He was remanded in custody ahead of his June 2026 sentencing.
Musse Ali. Conviction/Plea Date: 23 April 2026. On 10 November 2024 (Remembrance Sunday), the 68-year-old homeless man entered a shop at East Street Market in Walworth. After an attempted theft was thwarted by the store manager, Ali stepped outside, drew a knife, and stabbed three people in quick succession. CPS accepted a plea of manslaughter, possession of a bladed article, and two counts of wounding with intent. Ali suffered from schizoaffective disorder and had ceased taking his medication when he had become homeless earlier that year. Victims: Hilkiah McLeggan (Fatal Victim): A 77-year-old local resident from Southwark, died at the scene from a fatal stab wound to his back. Ho Man Yau & Baheru Nadew Bartura (Assault Victims): Two male shoppers who were seriously stabbed and rushed to the hospital with critical injuries during the rampage.
Mohamed Nur (Brixton Slasher Attacks). Conviction Date: 23 May 2024. Convicted at the Old Bailey of murder, three counts of wounding with intent, and possession of a bladed article. Over a span of three days, he went on a series of random, unprovoked slasher attacks against strangers using a makeshift weapon. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 32 years. Victims: Johanita Kossiwa Dogbey, a 31-year-old woman who was fatally attacked from behind and had her throat cut while walking in Brixton, south London, on 1 May 2023. Three unnamed members of the public (two women and one man) whose faces were slashed in separate, random street ambushes two days prior to the murder.
Essa Suleiman. Charged on 1 May 2026 (Remanded for trial). A 45-year-old Somali-born British national charged by the Metropolitan Police with three counts of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. He allegedly carried out a high-profile, targeted knife attack that authorities treated as an antisemitic hate crime. Victims: Shilome Rand (34) and Moshe Ben Baila (76), two Jewish men who were targeted and stabbed in Golders Green, north London. An unnamed resident in Great Dover Street, south London, who sustained minor injuries during an altercation with the suspect earlier that same morning.
Muhiddin Mire. Conviction Date: 8 June 2016. Convicted of attempted murder at the Old Bailey. Somali-born Mire launched a violent, ideologically driven knife assault inside a London Underground station. He was later given a life sentence with a minimum of eight and a half years to be served in a secure psychiatric facility. Victims: Lyle Zimmerman, a 56-year-old musician who suffered severe, life-threatening neck wounds and a lacerated windpipe during the ticket hall ambush at Leytonstone Tube station. Two other commuters who suffered minor physical injuries and severe shock as they attempted to intervene or escape.
Mohamed Abdillahi. Conviction Date: October 2017. A Somali national who was part of an aggressive gang that launched a multi-stage assault in west London. After pleading guilty to violent disorder, he was convicted of manslaughter at the Old Bailey for his direct role in hunting down and cornering the victim during a secondary ambush. Victim: Augustus Fenton, a 27-year-old man who was cornered, assaulted, and fatally wounded by the group during an attack in Southall.
Yonis Al-Amin (Cardiff Assault). Conviction Date: July 2018. Convicted at Cardiff Crown Court of Section 18 grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. Al-Amin became embroiled in a highly volatile dispute at a shared housing accommodation, during which he cornered a co-resident in a communal area and stabbed them with a kitchen knife. He was sentenced to 9 years in prison. Victim: A 29-year-old resident who suffered a punctured lung and severe internal bleeding but survived following rapid emergency medical intervention.
Ahmed Mohamed (Sheffield Assault). Conviction Date: November 2023. Convicted at Sheffield Crown Court of attempted murder. Mohamed engaged in a targeted confrontation linked to local illicit trade activities. He ambushed the victim on a public street, producing a machete-style knife and striking the victim down. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison. Victim: A 24-year-old man who sustained critical, life-altering injuries to his limbs and upper body, spending weeks in intensive care
Abdi Ali (Middlesbrough Stabbing). Conviction Date: December 2021. Convicted at Teesside Crown Court of wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. Following a verbal argument that escalated in a residential area, Ali produced a large knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim before fleeing the scene. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Victim: An unnamed 33-year-old man who suffered multiple severe deep lacerations to his torso and arms, requiring emergency surgery.
Zakaria Bulhan. Conviction Date: 7 February 2017. Pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, as well as five counts of wounding with intent, handed an indefinite hospital order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1983, alongside a Section 41 restriction order. A Norwegian national of Somali origin who had moved to the UK in 2002. At the age of 19, he armed himself with a kitchen knife and went on a spontaneous, random rampage in Russell Square, central London. He stabbed six people in the span of a few minutes before being subdued by police officers. Victim: Darlene Horton, a 64-year-old American tourist, who died at the scene. Five others were injured.
