Financing remains at the heart of new nuclear. Large-scale nuclear plants require upfront investment of $5–10 billion, yet they deliver low-cost, stable power for up to 80 years. For newcomer countries like Kenya, the challenge is to ensure affordability for citizens. We must therefore pioneer innovative financing models that blend private capital, government guarantees, and international cooperation.
#Humancapacity is equally critical.
#Africa will need at least 10,000 nuclear professionals by 2035. 🇰🇪 is investing in training, but we cannot do it alone. I call for the creation of an African Nuclear Skills Academy, in partnership with the
@iaeaorg @IAEATC OECD-NEA, and key partners including traditional and non traditional donors, to train the next generation of African scientists, engineers, and regulators.
