What began as a tribute to the values embodied by my revered mother, Santokbaa, has today evolved into a platform that celebrates compassion, courage, selfless service and the spirit of giving. It was a privilege to welcome Hon'ble Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Shri Harivansh Narayan Singh Ji, whose life and public service continue to inspire millions, Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Harsh Sanghavi Ji, whose commitment towards the development of Gujarat and its people is commendable and several esteemed dignitaries. As I witnessed the gathering of distinguished guests, changemakers and well-wishers under one roof, I felt a deep sense of gratitude. More than 2,000 Iranian students in the UAE have suddenly lost access to their schools — right in the middle of the academic year. These are children. They have no political role, no influence on politics, no connection to any government decisions. Their only “agenda” is education. In a powerful demonstration of unity and humanitarian spirit the @ifrc in coordination with the @emiratesrcEN @emiratesrc successfully concluded the interactive workshop "Living the Fundamental Principles: Humanity in Action in the UAE", held from 3-6 November 2025, in a hybrid format combining both online and in-person participation. Over three inspiring days, 90 dedicated #ERC #staff and #volunteers gathered to deepen their understanding of the Seven Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: #Humanity, #Impartiality #Neutrality, #Independence #Voluntary_Service #Unity, and #Universality. The workshop provided a dynamic platform to connect these universal humanitarian principles with Emirati values, highlighting the harmony between global humanitarian ideals and the UAE's cultural and ethical heritage. Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and reflective exercises, participants deepened their humanitarian identity by linking their practical experiences, daily work, and response efforts to the Fundamental Principles, bringing these values to life in real-world humanitarian action. The Centre for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) at Minhaj University Lahore hosted a seminar in observance of World Humanitarian Day. The event commenced with welcome remarks by Dr. Abdul Farooq, Deputy Director of CEPD. The distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Shaista Sohail (Former Executive Director of the HEC and CEO of the SOS Foundation), delivered an insightful address on the significance of World Humanitarian Day. सेवा परमो धर्म: (Service is the highest duty) Ever since I was a child I have seen how lovingly and compassionately my mother Santokbaa used to serve others with utmost love and respect, one such incident that I very much remember is that of Rajuma, a blind old lady who used to live in the outskirts of the village. My mother used to feed her and hear her heart out. Seeing her love and care, Rajumaa blessed her with joy and abundance, such were the kind deeds of my mother. In this world where everyone is moving forward their own goals, simple acts of kindness and compassion bring us together. It is through these acts that we can truly make the world our family and a better place to live in. Inspired by our ancient Indian thought, “वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम्” (the world is one big family) there are many humanitarians who are working selflessly for the welfare of others. Great leaders and #humanitarians have always spoken about the power of service. My mother Santokbaa, was an idol of kindness and compassion, she was ready to help anyone and anytime such was her selfless nature. To carry forward her legacy of giving and humanitarian nature, the Santokbaa Humanitarian Award was established which honoured the selfless individuals for their service to the mankind, inspiring us to do the same and thus making the world a true family filled with love, kindness and compassion.
