Bringing together Member of the County Assembly (MCAs) from Garissa, Turkana, and Nairobi City counties, alongside partners from DRS, the Shirika Plan Secretariat, and the @WorldBankGroup, the initiative promotes alignment of county legislation, planning, and budgeting with national refugee policies for the benefit of both refugees and host communities. #IGADSupportPlatform

Next, a dynamic panel with of officials from Ministries of Labour, Trade, Revenue, @RRSEthiopia, regional bureaus, and refugee entrepreneurs examined the key procedures, requirements, and challenges related to work permits, business licenses, and Tax Identification numbers for refugees. The discussions focus on implementing Article 26 of Refugee Proclamation No. 1110/2019 (Right to work) and Directive No. 1019/2024, which sets out procedures for work permits and business licenses. The workshop aims to build consensus on practical strategies to support refugee economic inclusion and address implementation challenges. In her opening remarks, @TeybaHassen, Director General of @RRSEthiopia, reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to advancing the right to work and encouraged private sector meeting. The IGAD Head of Mission to Somalia, @MohamoudKaarshe remarked that the initiative, comprising of workshops and sports activities will serve as a platform for dialogue, skill buildings and mutual respect. Data from the @refugees, as of December 2025, Somalia hosted over 46,000 refugees and asylum seekers, mainly from Ethiopia, Yemen, and Syria, while also facing a major internal displacement crisis, with more than 3.5 million IDPs driven by conflict, insecurity, and climate-related disasters such as drought and flooding. #IGADSupportPlatform
