From 1996 to 2020 academic technology transfer out of universities to the private sector has resulted in over 550000 new invention disclosures, 140000 patents and 18000 new startup companies formed. Lessons for India from the US innovation ecosystem is the need to first implement effective policies to transfer research and technologies from universities to the private sector. Programs to enable scientists and researchers to become entrepreneurs. Effective programs to provide seed funding to promising young entrepreneurial companies and investment in R&D programs.
