This afternoon, trustees engaged in Indigenous-led experiences during our Academy Pre-Conference! 🪶 The Haida Ceremony, “Our Plants, Our Medicines” was guided by Haida Gwaii Trustee, Dana Moraes and Haida Gwaii Elder and Skidegate Band Council, Jenny Cross which provided insights on traditional healing plants and their healing properties. 📖 The Importance of Storytelling in Indigenous Culture facilitated by Denise Augustine, Former Superintendent of Indigenous Education, Ministry of Education and Childcare, allowed trustees to reflect on the role and impact of storytelling in indigenous culture. 🌲 Musqueam Cedar Weaving, facilitated by Musqueam Elder, Rita (Point) Kompst led “Weave to Heal,” a session where trustees made their own red cedar coaster and learned the basics of this traditional craft. Building Public Education Champions starts with understanding and honouring the land we are on and the communities we serve. A sincere thank you to all facilitators for sharing your knowledge with us during our pre-conference workshops. #IndigenousLearning #EducationLeadership

Class 2-1 read "Thunder and the Noise Storms", then practiced listening with wonder by blocking out noises & focusing on natural noises➡️the wind, our breath & our heart! It was an ideal day for this activity with the wind on our side-how awesome is that! 🌬️👂 #IndigenousLearning
