This is #GoodFire at work in Inyo County. Through CAL FIRE’s Vegetation Management Program, firefighters with the CAL FIRE San Bernardino/Inyo/Mono Unit recently worked on a 1,400-acre fuel-reduction project near Independence. The reduced vegetation that could fuel wildfire, removed invasive plants, and restored wildlife habitat to help lower wildfire risk and protect nearby communities. CAL FIRE engages in fuels reduction work and fire prevention activities year-round. Track the progress of projects at: bit.ly/CFFuelTracker #CALFIRE #FuelsReduction #InyoCounty #RxFire

As part of ongoing vegetation management efforts in Inyo County, CAL FIRE engine crews recently conducted burn pile operations targeting salt cedar (tamarisk)—a highly invasive plant species that threatens local ecosystems. Salt cedar aggressively displaces native vegetation, alters soil conditions, increases wildfire risk, and consumes significant amounts of water in already arid environments. Left unmanaged, it can quickly dominate riparian corridors and open landscapes. Removing invasive species like salt cedar is an important step in restoring native habitats, improving fire resilience, and protecting natural resources. This work reflects CAL FIRE’s broader commitment to proactive land stewardship and wildfire risk reduction—beyond a single project or burn operation. #CALFIRE #VegetationManagement #InvasiveSpecies #fuelsreduction #InyoCounty #WildfirePrevention

It doesn’t take much water to create a dangerous situation. Just a few inches can lift a vehicle off the roadway and put lives at risk. As storm systems move through San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono counties, our region is seeing a mix of rain, mountain snow, runoff, and localized roadway flooding. Combined with increased holiday travel, conditions can change quickly—especially in low-lying areas, desert washes, and mountain passes. Please keep these safety reminders in mind: • Never attempt to drive through standing or flowing water. • If water is covering the roadway, Turn Around, Don’t Drown and choose a safer route. • Expect delays during the holiday travel period and allow extra time to reach your destination. Flooded roads can be deceptive and deadly. Slowing down, staying alert, and making cautious decisions protects not only you and your passengers, but everyone sharing the road. Arriving safely is always worth the extra time. 📍 Sheep Creek Rd x Phelan Rd. #TurnAroundDontDrown #StormSafety #HolidayTravel #CALFIRE #SanBernardinoCounty #InyoCounty #MonoCounty
