This is Session 1 of an ongoing series built around the needs of the Arab world. Across 22 Arab League states and roughly 500 million people, much of our care still leans on guidelines developed elsewhere. This series is about what it takes to turn the best global evidence into better care for our own patients and health systems. In this first session: – An introduction to GIN and the GIN Arab Regional Community – Clinical Practice Guidelines in the Arab World: what they are, why we need them, when they actually work, and why the goal is skilled use, not blind adherence – WHO-EMRO: institutionalizing capacity building for evidence-informed policymaking What the series sets out to do: 1) Introduce the community to GIN and GIN Arab. 2) Build a shared understanding of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, the standards, methodology, and tools for their development, appraisal, and implementation, and the science of doing this across different contexts. 3) Showcase the status of guidelines in the Arab world and how we move things forward, shining a light on real regional initiatives and success stories in every session. 🌍 AI in evaluation: Opportunity or oversimplification for evidence use? A recent reflection by @TwendeMnE challenges the evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) community to think beyond the hype of AI and focus on what truly matters for evaluation and evidence use. As AI tools become more integrated into our workflows, they are undeniably improving speed and efficiency, supporting everything from data synthesis to report drafting. Healthcare providers rely on guidelines to make informed healthcare decisions with their patients. But what exactly are guidelines—and why do they matter? Guidelines are carefully developed recommendations that help clinicians diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases using the best available scientific evidence. They play a critical role in ensuring care is consistent, effective, and up to date. That’s where our current project comes in. Our team is working to develop health care guidelines for cancer detection in firefighters, grounded in rigorous methods and the strongest evidence available.
