Thank you,
@nypost
You shouldn't be hearing more from a
@NJAssemblyGOP rep in the minority caucus of the lower house than you're hearing from the Governor of the State of New Jersey...yet here we are. This is NOT how it's supposed to work.
🌡️HOW TO "LOWER THE TEMPERATURE" AT DELANEY HALL: REINSTATE THE CURFEW IMMEDIATELY.
State and local officials should already be COORDINATING DIRECTLY with
@DHSgov &
@SecMullinDHS, keeping the public informed and getting this situation under control.
There should be a joint briefing EVERY DAY at noon until this situation is under control. The public deserves a clear & truthful accounting of what happened, what needs changing, and what the plan is for the next 24 hours.
Effective immediately, reestablish a 24-HOUR, EXPANDED secure perimeter around the facility and all entrances/exits Access within that zone must be limited to family members visiting detainees, legal counsel, clergy, law enforcement, facility deliveries, EMS, employees, and monitored traffic.
Deploy the
@NJSP &
@DHSgov officers to work in tandem. Newark PD can assist as needed with traffic control & maintaining order outside the zone.
Violence results in IMMEDIATE ARREST (not tomorrow, not after a press conference, not after a committee meeting, immediately).
Many of us are angry and for good reason. I've been deeply critical of
@GovSherrillNJ and her administration & Mayor
@rasjbaraka for how they have botched this. These are not stupid people; they know exactly what they're looking at, and they can't feign ignorance and pretend they didn't see this coming.
People who have concerns about detainee treatment, due process, facility conditions, or federal immigration policy have the right to advocate for change. Do so through lawful, organized channels. Frankly,
@SenatorAndyKim is a case study in pouring gasoline on the fire with his non-stop, passive-aggressive pablum and misleading posts that serve little purpose but to rile everyone up. That's not helping anyone inside or outside Delaney Hall.
Plain and simple, there are people in this country whose violation is crossing the border illegally or overstaying a visa. The problem is that the left pretends there's no problem with that whatsoever.
We also know not everyone here illegally is a violent criminal. But violent criminals, gang members, cartel operatives, traffickers, and other dangerous foreign nationals also entered this country through years of failed border security, and the left pretends that also isn't a problem whatsoever.
Rioters are screaming that law enforcement officers are fascist thugs. NO. REMEMBER: their job is to maintain order, protect public safety, and make sure EVERYONE GOES HOME ALIVE (protesters, detainees, employees, officers, bystanders, and yes- even the rioters alike).
At the end of the day, none of this is worth a funeral.
