If you truly believe that level of technology could be developed in isolation within 2-3 years you're deluded. If it was that easy, why haven't the us developed their own standalone VSTOL system 65 years after it was created with British ingenuity, in England? There's no breaking contract that includes giving away the rights to proprietary military technology, especially not for a former partner that has turned traitor.
