“Bank from anywhere. Starting from here.”
That’s what the wall said at a Capital One Café I visited recently. A coffee shop. A co-working space. And yes, a bank.
No queues. No cold counters. Just Wi-Fi, warm coffee, and quiet presence. If you want to open an account or ask a question, someone’s there. But if you just want a place to sit, think, or recharge, it’s yours.
It’s a bold experiment in banking-as-a-service. Not just digital, but experiential.
Much like DBS’s “Bank less, live more,” it flips the script: less friction, more value.
As Ethiopia’s banking sector transforms post-liberalization, I wonder:
Can we imagine a Zemen Café? An Awash Lounge? A Dashen Den?
Not just in Bole, but also in Bahir Dar, Dire Dawa, Adama, Hawassa?
A powerful idea:
Banking can be human, local, and quietly brilliant.

Which bank in Ethiopia will take the first leap?
