Corpsmembers from Urban Corps of San Diego County's Construction/Green Build team recently replaced the fencing at the San Diego River Mouth — protecting one of the city's most biodiverse coastal habitats from Ocean Beach's Dog Beach next door. 🐦🌿
Working in partnership with San Diego Bird Alliance, San Diego River Foundation, and the City of San Diego, Corpsmembers dug and placed 300 fence poles two feet into the sand, each reinforced with rebar, then strung rope and four rows of twisted wire with wooden slats to complete the fence.
Why does it matter? The San Diego River Mouth is home to rare coastal dune and tidal wetland habitat — and over 275 species of birds.
"The fences we partnered with Urban Corps help us share, protect and enjoy the habitat and other species that use this area." — Andrew Meyer, Director of Conservation, San Diego Bird Alliance
