Day 10 | Residential 3: Locus of Control & Limiting Beliefs
This session invited participants into a deeper and more personal reflection on leadership, asking not just how we lead, but who we are when we choose public life.
We began with a simple yet powerful question: Why are we in public life? For many, the answer returned to one thing, concern for community and the commitment to create meaningful change.
The conversation explored the idea of locus of control and why self awareness matters deeply in leadership. As public leaders, how we respond to challenges, setbacks, and criticism shapes not only our decisions, but also the trust people place in us.
We were reminded of the importance of staying anchored in our values, understanding what is within our control, and practising compassion towards ourselves in the process.
We also reflected on limiting beliefs, those quiet assumptions about our own capacity and abilities that often hold us back. Many times, the greatest barriers are not outside us, but the stories we keep telling ourselves.
Through these reflections and dialogue, the session invited us to recognise these patterns, challenge them, and reimagine ourselves as leaders capable of growth, courage, and transformation.
