$SNSP 가 인수한 Lumerical/Ansys 는 Photonics의 standard sim tool로 없어서는 안될 시뮬레이터입니다. 제가 알기로 Ansys 인수 하고 부정적 여론이 많았다고 하는데, (높은 비용) 전 요즘 포토닉스 시장을 보면, 성공적 베팅이 아니었나 싶습니다. 이를 통해 소자 디자인, 회로 시뮬, 칩 설계까지 EPIC를 아우르는 시장을 갖게 된 것 같습니다. (내 주식은 마이너스지만 ㅠ) 파파존스님께서 공유해주신 SNUG 글 재밌게 잘 봤습니다 😃

I’ll try to learn the basics of Lumerical—it’s used for optics simulations. I think it will be much more helpful for my project than PyMeep FDTD and could have a greater impact. I have about two weeks left, and the project will be wrapping up soon.

Actually I'm surprised they get so much directionality from incoherent emitters. Can local coupling between neighbours result in coherent behaviour over a wide area ? I'm not sure I understand what they do with Lumerical.

i'm more familiar with the on-chip stuff, where the sim tools are FDTD and FEM (lumerical, comsol, synopsis beamprop, flexcompute tidy3d etc), and you could build your own circuit level sims using pytorch, or use [sax](flaport.github.io/sax/). there are many people here who are experts in free space optics stuff, @apraxophobia does noblinear optics for fs lasers, and @BobNiffenegger 's lab developed a [code to CAD optical layout tool](websites.umass.edu/rniffeneg…)

i'd like to think that flexcompute forced them to put lumerical FDTD onto EC2. would they support GPUs if we trash talk them more?

Love and hate relationships with comsol. Way less beginner Friendly than lumerical fdtd for optics. Troubleshooting in comsol = pain. Meep was my first fdtd, but then switch to lumerical because of gui. Been wanting to try felxcompute for metasurface and waveguide

You are using Synopsys OptSim/Ansys Lumerical INTERCONNECT/Luceda IPKISS/GDSFactory for your photonics circuit simulation, I'm using pytorch, we are not the same. (this is probably a dumb idea but hey it got built-in tolerance analysis called backpropagation, and many benchmarking, visualization stuff) (Will make the coupler modeling more accurate & add more components etc)
