A long story, in brief. I don’t see myself as having 'transitioned.' I still do much of what I was originally trained for, just expressed differently over time. That said, my journey is not a usual one, and it is not a path I would necessarily advise anyone to take.
I studied Science Laboratory Technology (ND) and graduated in 2000, then worked as a teacher and technologist for about two years. I planned to study Medicine and Surgery, but instead gained admission to study Biochemistry at the University of Benin. After the lost academic session, I transferred to Ambrose Alli University through Direct Entry to study Microbiology, and later chose not to switch to Medicine due to accreditation concerns.
I went on to work across several fields, including phone engineering, marketing in insurance and IT products and services, business development, project management, business consulting, as well as training and Institutional Learning Solutions. I later opted for an MSc in Immunology and Immunochemistry instead of returning to Medicine at Igbinedion University.
I became a lecturer, completed a PhD in the same field, and then moved into Nursing, earning both a BNSc and an MNSc in Medical Surgical Nursing. I am currently back in school pursuing a double PhD in Forensic Nursing and Medical Surgical Nursing.
That is the journey in brief.
Doc, you're inspiring to us
