India highlighted strong convergence with Norway in green transition, renewable energy, green shipping, blue economy, climate resilience, digital innovation, AI, space cooperation, clean oceans, and resilient supply chains during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Norway (18–19 May 2026). At the MOSIP country journeys session at @ID4Africa, Rosemary Kisembo of @NIRA_Ug shared Uganda’s transition from fragmented systems towards a more integrated identity ecosystem. A major issue was the same person existing differently across systems, for example one date of birth in CRVS and another in the national ID system. Integration is therefore also about consistency, trust, and better service delivery. Important reflections too on interoperability, digital sovereignty, local capacity building, and reducing dependence on closed external systems. #ID4Africa2026

The 50 countries are designated as global testbeds, (guinea pigs) and the DPI’s will first in Africa (sub-Saharan, particularly) and India but the plan is to roll digital IDs globally by 2030 to include all citizens of UN member-states. The Gates Foundation supports the MOSIP (Modular Open Source Identity Platform), which provides open-source technology allowing countries to build their own digital ID systems, utilizing QR codes as a key feature.
