The future of special nuclear materials will take place in SRP.
This Friday, we’re shining a light on one of the features making that future possible: the gloveboxes.
The Sellafield Product & Residue Store Retreatment Plant (SRP) is our in-development facility that will receive, treat and repackage the UK’s existing special nuclear material. This will enable safe, long-term storage ahead of its eventual disposition.
As SRP continues to take shape on the Sellafield site, its specialist gloveboxes have entered the final stages of manufacture and testing.
Once commissioned, these gloveboxes will act as the beating heart of the plant, enabling the key retreatment and repackaging work at the core of SRP’s mission.
SRP will contain four glovebox lines, with more than 50 bespoke units, each uniquely designed and built to rigorous standards to meet the plant’s specific demands.
This progress wouldn’t be possible without our supply chain partners NIS Ltd and Ansaldo Nuclear. Their expertise has led the way in designing, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning this highly specialised equipment.
