There's a better way to do this than a generation ship.
A smaller ship with the same or better propulsion. Similar cylinders inside cylinders rotating for artificial gravity, but operated by robots and ASI for the trip.
Humans travel as either frozen embryos (if we can preserve them that long) or as complete genetic code plus machinery to create viable embryos. Artificial wombs (which we'll need anyway for Mars and probably Earth) mean humans are born on the ship at the end of the journey.
Robots raise and educate the settlers using a full AI database and holograms. While the children grow up, robots establish settlements on the destination planet.
This opens the galaxy for settlement, not just the Centauri system. It is also the path from a Kardashev II to a Kardashev III human civilization.
(...and no sci-fi drama of generation ship people being overtaken by Sol system humans with faster interstellar travel that rendered their voyage unnecessary.)

I bet most of you won't comment, repost, or help make this go viral. I don't believe many reading this have the audacity.
If I could say one thing to everyone on the planet, I would say this,
No matter the personal struggles each of you faces, we as a species share one single point of failure; Earth, our cradle world.
If we fail here and lose our struggle against entropy… extinction wins. Then there was no point to any of it. No point to the wars, the ideas, the civil rights, the exploration, the discoveries, the sacrifices, or the advancements that brought us here. Because if no one is left to remember, there was never any point in existing at all.
But we do have a solution. And that solution has always been expansion.
Instead of nations conquering and sowing more death and destruction, our path forward is the peaceful industrialization of low Earth orbit, followed by the colonization of the Moon, Mars, the solar system; and eventually the stars.
Yes, it’s hard. So was the Great Wall of China. So were the Pyramids. So were World War I and II. So was the Space Race of the ’60s. It’s even harder to set aside our differences and build something beautiful together… but we rise every time the chips are down.
Now, we must rise again; this time as one species. Because the threats are real. In roughly a billion years, that's something like 33 to 37 million human generations from now. Our planet will run out of oxygen, and there is nothing we can do to stop it. We can not save our cradle world forever… but we can save humanity and carry the story forward.
The clock is ticking.
So let us rise. Our only true nemesis is the unknown. Let us take our place among the stars and make the cosmos our home.
Let us rise as one.
