In 1971 @forestservice in close coordination with @AirNatlGuard and @USAFReserve developed #MAFFS to convert #C130's into #airtankers when contracted resources are exhausted. Thus, the US #MilitaryFirefighting mission was born and has continued non-stop for almost 50 years.
