NPCIL set up a dedicated exhibition that attracted significant attention across sectors. The NPCIL presence witnessed enthusiastic engagement from industry leaders, academic institutions, young aspirants, vendors, and technology partners. Many of whom expressed keen interest in understanding the nuclear power landscape, NPCIL's expertise & experiences besides collaboration, registration, and career opportunities with NPCIL. There was strong optimism with regard to growing potential in the nuclear power sector, be it the recent legislative developments or India’s Nuclear Energy Mission, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat. Visitors appreciated NPCIL’s impeccable safety record and excellent operational performances, reinforcing confidence globally in India’s Nuclear Power Programme. The stall was honoured by visits of several dignitaries eg. Pathak spoke to NDTV about India’s nuclear energy roadmap, the country’s clean energy vision, and the major reforms underway in the sector. Key points from the interview are as follows: India’s Big Nuclear Target: India aims to scale up its nuclear power capacity to 100 GW by 2047. The current capacity stands at about 8,880 MW, with plans to reach about 22,000 MW by 2032. NPCIL plans to contribute to about 54,000 MW by 2047. Opening the Nuclear Sector to Private Participation: The government is considering amendments to the Atomic Energy Act and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act to enable private investment. NPCIL is already collaborating with NTPC and other PSUs. Clean Energy Initiatives: A dedicated “Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat” has also been announced. NPCIL is geared up to contribute to this cause. India’s Push for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs): NPCIL is already working on BSMR technology along with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. NPCIL is also into setting up Bharat Small Reactor (BSR) which are improved version of 220 MW PHWRs. Fleet-Mode Expansion of 700 MW PHWRs: NPCIL plans to build fleets of 700 MW PHWRs in group of 10 reactors each. The 2nd such fleet is planned at approved sites like Kaiga, Kakrapar, Narora, and Bhimpur. Sites for further fleets are also being explored. The performance of India’s 700 MW PHWRs has been excellent. Partnerships for Imported Reactors: With Russian Federation cooperation, two reactors are already operational at Kudankulam and four more are under construction. Progress continues with France’s EDF for the Jaitapur project, and Westinghouse from the US for Kovvada site in Andhra Pradesh. Strengthening Uranium Security: Uranium supply is adequate to support planned nuclear power capacity addition. India may also consider other avenues like investments in uranium mines, etc. Cost Efficiency of Indian Reactors: India’s latest reactors cost about ₹16 crore per MW, among the lowest globally. Construction timelines have also improved significantly. Safety First: India’s 700 MW PHWR has been described as “the safest reactor in the world.” Lessons from Fukushima have been integrated into design and operation. One Indian reactor has operated continuously for 962 days, demonstrating world-class reliability. Nuclear Power for a Carbon-Free Future: India’s nuclear power generation currently avoids nearly 40 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. The lifecycle carbon footprint of nuclear power is comparable to wind energy. Nuclear power will continue to be a reliable, clean base-load source for India’s growing energy needs. समझौता ज्ञापन हस्ताक्षर Signing of Memorandum of Understanding NPCIL is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MahaGenCo) and the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA) to advance Maharashtra’s nuclear power development programme. This important initiative has been undertaken under the visionary leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis. Speaking on the occasion, Hon'ble Chief Minister stated that Government Of Maharashtra will proactively facilitate and extend all cooperation for setting up of Nuclear Power Plants in the state. The MoU was signed by Shri Bhuwan Chandra Pathak, Distinguished Scientist & Chairman and Managing Director, NPCIL; Shri Radhakrishnan B., IAS, Chairman and Managing Director, MahaGenCo and Shri Aman Mittal, IAS, Jt-CEO, MITRA in the esteemed presence of senior officials from the participating organisations.
