This years #numischat pumpkin is inspired by this fabulous rebus #token of Ralph Harbottle (hare-bottle) of Great Torrington, Devon. Seemed appropriate given hares links with witches and occult! Was excited to finally see one, thanks @britishmuseum getting funding to digitise.

It’s not known. I think they were likely struck from melted down English coins of Edward III. Edward established the kingdom of England’s first mass produced gold coinage about a decade prior. They were probably the most commonly encountered gold coins in Scotland at the time.
