Reservation is the biggest issue in Jammu and Kashmir at present. The Jammu and Kashmir Government cannot run away from this issue any further under the regime of Omar Abdullah. More than 50,000 students of Jammu and Kashmir appear for the NEET examination for around 1,500 MBBS seats. Across the country, over 22 lakh students compete for nearly 1.2 lakh seats. This is intense competition, yet in J&K, merit is steadily giving way to social justice every year. When reservation crosses 60%, it is not balance, it is dominance. This pushes merit to the margins. Nobody denies social justice. But how do you justify a system that leaves out top-ranking students despite strong scores? What message are we sending to the new generation, that hard work does not matter? This is something the Omar Abdullah Government must answer. Silence is not leadership. The policy should be reviewed. The imbalance should be removed. Merit must get its rightful place. In those 553 days, what have the Open Merit youth of J&K received? Absolutely nothing but a masterclass in bureaucratic stalling. We were promised a rationalization of the disastrous 70% reservation policy. Instead, we get endless closed-door cabinet meetings, opaque resolutions reportedly forwarded to the L-G, and a complete lack of transparency. While you hide behind political maneuvering and "draft proposals," the educated youth of Jammu & Kashmir are struggling with zero prospects, watching their futures be systematically dismantled. Merit is being penalized under your watch. This is an existential crisis for a generation of struggling youth, yet your administration treats it like a minor inconvenience. How is this fair? Only one Translation Assistant post for #Open_Merit was advertised and now even that solitary opportunity is withdrawn under the vague excuse of “administrative reasons.” This is not governance, this is systematic denial of opportunity. First reduce posts, then withdraw the only one, and finally offer refunds as if aspirations can be returned like application fees. Open merit candidates are repeatedly being pushed to the margins. The government must explain why even a single open merit post could not be protected.
