Reservation is the biggest issue in Jammu and Kashmir at present. The Jammu and Kashmir Government cannot run away from this issue any further under the regime of Omar Abdullah.
More than 50,000 students of Jammu and Kashmir appear for the NEET examination for around 1,500 MBBS seats. Across the country, over 22 lakh students compete for nearly 1.2 lakh seats. This is intense competition, yet in J&K, merit is steadily giving way to social justice every year.
When reservation crosses 60%, it is not balance, it is dominance. This pushes merit to the margins.
Nobody denies social justice. But how do you justify a system that leaves out top-ranking students despite strong scores? What message are we sending to the new generation, that hard work does not matter?
This is something the Omar Abdullah Government must answer. Silence is not leadership.
The policy should be reviewed. The imbalance should be removed. Merit must get its rightful place. If this continues, an entire generation will lose confidence.
