🐧 Linux’la İlgili 7 İlginç Bilgi Bir üniversite sunucusundaki klasör adı, Avustralya’daki bir hayvanat bahçesinde yaşanan ilginç bir olay ve uzay istasyonlarına kadar uzanan bir hikâye... Linux’un geçmişi, çoğu kişinin bilmediği ilginç detaylarla dolu. İlk adından maskotu Tux’a, ilk e-postasından süper bilgisayarlara kadar Linux tarihine dair 7 ilginç bilgiyi derledik. 1️⃣ Küçük Bir Hobi Projesi 1991 yılında Linus Torvalds, Linux’u kişisel bir proje olarak duyurdu. İlk sürüm yalnızca 10 bin satırdan az kod içeriyordu. Linux çekirdeği ilk yayınlandığında 1 MB’tan küçüktü. 2️⃣ Linux Değil Freax Projenin ilk adı “Freax”ti. Kodların yüklendiği üniversite sunucusunun yöneticisi Ari Lemmke, klasör adını “linux” olarak oluşturdu. İsim, Linus Unix birleşiminden geldi. Linus bu adı başta fazla kişisel bulduğu için istemese de, isim bu şekilde benimsendi. 3️⃣ Tux Gerçek Bir Penguen Linux’un maskotu Tux, Linus Torvalds’ın Avustralya’daki bir hayvanat bahçesinde bir penguen tarafından ısırılmasıyla ortaya çıktı. “Tux” adı hem Torvalds UniX birleşimiyle ilişkilendiriliyor hem de penguenlerin smokin giymiş gibi görünmesine yapılan bir gönderme olarak, İngilizcede smokin anlamına gelen “Tuxedo” kelimesiyle bağlantılandırılıyor. 4️⃣ Süper Bilgisayarların Kalbi Japonya’daki Fugaku ve ABD’deki Frontier gibi süper bilgisayarlar Linux tabanlı çalışıyor. Bu sistemler iklim simülasyonları, ilaç geliştirme ve büyük ölçekli yapay zekâ modelleri için kullanılıyor. 5️⃣ Cebinizde Bir Linux Olabilir Linux çekirdeği üzerine kurulu Android işletim sistemiyle milyarlarca akıllı telefon sahibi, her gün farkında olmadan Linux kullanıyor. Bunun yanı sıra Wi-Fi modemler, ATM’ler, POS cihazları ve akıllı televizyonlar da Linux tabanlı sistemlerle çalışıyor. 6️⃣ Linux’un İlk E-Postası Hâlâ Arşivde Linux’un dünyaya duyurulduğu ilk mesaj, 25 Ağustos 1991 tarihinde Linus Torvalds tarafından comp.os.minix Usenet grubuna gönderildi. News | The Dutch government just launched a soft launch of its open-source code platform code.overheid.nl. This platform aims to enable government organizations to collaboratively develop, share, and publish open-source software independently. The platform is fully self-hosted, supporting digital sovereignty, and is currently using Forgejo, an open-source alternative to GitHub and GitLab. For now, it's a pilot, and not all government organizations can use it yet. Imagine you're a software developer in 2000, working for General Dynamics. Your assignment: build a database management system for a US Navy destroyer. The requirements are absurd. The hardware is classified. The timeline is "yesterday." You look at the existing options. Oracle? Too heavy. MySQL? Too complex. You need something that fits on a warship's limited hardware and never, ever crashes. You think: "I'll build something simple. Just for this project. No one else will ever use it." You call it SQLite. Three months later, you have a working database. It passes all the Navy tests. The destroyer sails with your code running its systems. You could have stopped there. Contract fulfilled. Move on. But the code was elegant. The problem was solved. So you open-source it. You don't start a company. You don't hire a marketing team. You don't even trademark the name properly. You just... keep improving it. Fast forward to 2025. SQLite is running on 4 billion smartphones. Every iPhone. Every Android. Every Tesla. Every Chrome browser. Every Firefox installation. Every Airbus A350. Every Mars rover. It is the most widely deployed database in history. By orders of magnitude. It wasn't built by a startup. It wasn't funded by VCs. It wasn't marketed by anyone. It was built by one developer, solving one problem, for one warship. Then the world discovered it. The lesson isn't "build something scalable." It's: build something so reliable, so simple, so right that it becomes invisible. So invisible that people forget it exists. So invisible that it runs the world without anyone noticing.
