Donald E. Knuth @realDonaldKnuth created #TeX, taught us #TheArtOfComputerProgramming and also how to do #LiterateProgramming @carstendominik gave us #OrgMode and yet: How dare you *NOT* know how to write “1980s” correctly in English! 🤌🏼 doi.org/10.18637/jss.v046.i0…

The future of AI assistants with memory and instructions should be git backed orgmode files in a local directory Plus an AGENTS.md so any open or propreitary model can understand how to interoperate with your org files. With a chat interface, you won't even need to edit .org files. Just talk to it. LLMs are optimized for text. Not human intelligence. Orgmode is a proven file format (30 years?) for high achieving intellectual task organization and execution. AI should be there to help you execute and make progress. Not execute on your behalf rendering you obsolete. I have been using orgmode and recently tried this approach with opencode, it works.

I, personally, enjoy Orgmode more (primarily due to Emacs). And I wouldn't say it's the greatest text format ever due to slight discrepancies across processors (same for XSLT), and since []() becomes [][] ("doesn't care which is which"/matches per protocol) in Orgmode.
i love md. greatest text format ever.

Did a version of the same thing re orgmode/para. Enjoyable.

I am generally not *that* proud of my completed projects, more so see them as required iteration. However I am in fact very proud of ai-org.net AI powered orgmode was an empty market slot. I could fork opencode and tailor it to orgmode with PARA methodology baked in an AGENTS.md that understood how to organize one's life towards action. I already used orgmode specifically to help me stay on track with numerous tasks at a full time job. Orgmode inherently encourages action, and is a standard local plaintext format, it's awesome. Because of AI, this is not another note-taking app. It’s an execution engine. I vibe coded it in a 10 hour frantic session (in opencode with GLM-5.1) and completed an MVP desktop app, site, and gumroad resources. It works. I ask my orgmode vault "where am I at", and it tells me where I'm at. It does in fact let me say "i finished those tasks, clear out the night", then it reflects my agenda as such. So I built something that works, and yeah I am proud of this one.

OrgMode/Plain text is the only file format with a genuine claim to outliving its authors, and you can build your life on it. It's the single most rational long-horizon bet in personal computing.

Midnight Commander (mc) Then I spent a decade with Emacs (orgmode ftw), until I switched to Vim tmux (mainly for SSH work) and sadly lost my Lisp superpowers along the way.

Orgmode has been around for decades, and you can rely on it to be around for even more decades.

If you’re into the whole brevity thing re OrgMode, a good LLM for local Mac decent Emacs Org-mode organization is Microsoft’s Phi-4 Mini (or Phi-3.5 Mini, ~3.8B parameters).

It is wicked fast. Especially because of the underlying structure of project related temporal orchestration in orgmode. Grok likes orgmode. I’ve used orgmode for two decades, Emacs for almost 3 decades. The stack has 20 X my workflow.

I just use notepad, npp, Emacs, vim/neovim, nano (it's my text, I style it however I feel like it, I don't care if Orgmode isn't the standard, it's my problem), LibreOffice, or OpenOffice... it's like a really, really long list. And then I dump it somewhere on the internet.
