The Kilinochchi District Conference of the district workshop series conducted by the Parliamentary Caucus for Persons with Disabilities, (PCIPD) was successfully held at the Kilinochchi District Secretariat Workshop last Monday 13th.

@NDI representatives led by Mrs. Shyama Salgado, the representatives of the parliamentary committees and the communication department also contributed with dedication. Northern Province Social Services, Ministry Secretary, Mr. Vagish, Kilinochchi District Secretary, Mr. Muralidaran and all the regional secretaries and all the relevant government officials who were invited had joined this occasion.
The following major decisions were taken here to empower the community of Kilinochchi district, where 11% of the total population is represented by the disabled community.
1, The establishment of a steering Committee to support the District Coordination Committee under the District Governor
2, To establish the respective steering committee headed by the divisional secretary in parallel in each regional secretariat division.
3, Inclusion of the subject related to the disabled community in the agenda of every coordination committee led by the political authority.
4, Obtaining government land for the establishment of a supplementary school for children with special needs. Mr. Ranjith Chandrasekhara, a distinguished Sri Lankan living in Britain, has expressed his desire to provide financial support for its construction.
5, Calling the attention of the Honorable President and the Minister of Education for the immediate empowerment of Kilinochchi Vocational Training Center (VTA), which is currently inactive.
6, Collecting and updating data related to the disabled community.
7, Rapid construction of necessary access facilities for admission of the disabled community to government institutions leading hospitals in the Northern Province.
The honorable gratitude of the Parliamentary caucus goes to the District Secretary and the NDI Institute for providing all necessary facilities and the DOJF Institute for coordinating all the disabled community.
The workshop, which was held with the highest representation of the organizations of the disabled community in the district, was extremely effective and positive.
