The #DWP has finally agreed to provide some funding for a few disabled people’s organisations to engage with its personal independence payment review, but has given them only about a month to organise events and submit their evidence.

The call for evidence for Timms PIP Review ends on Thursday 28th May at 11.59 pm
You still have time to send a submission for the call for evidence
This week in UK disability and benefits news has been packed with major developments.
The PIP review engagement programme has launched, with the government stating they are working with disabled people and representative organisations to shape future changes. Alongside this, updates from the Timms Review reinforce that engagement with disabled people’s organisations is ongoing, but many are questioning how meaningful that involvement will be.
Parliament has also opened a new inquiry into flexible working and disability, which could highlight the gap between policy assumptions and the lived reality of managing health conditions while working.
Meanwhile, reports around potential DWP surveillance technology, such as live-streaming and covert cameras—have raised concerns about privacy, despite being at an early procurement stage.
Ongoing issues remain around PIP and work, particularly how starting employment can trigger reassessments, creating fear and uncertainty for claimants.
As always, misinformation continues to circulate, especially around welfare spending and schemes like Motability, making it more important than ever to challenge narratives with facts and lived experience.
This weekly round-up aims to break down the headlines, provide context, and keep the conversation grounded in reality.

The latest update to the Timms Review confirms they are actively engaging with disabled people and disabled people’s organisations, but they’re also asking for individual evidence.
That matters.
Because alongside those organisations, there’s a public Call for Evidence open until 28 May 2026.
This is what will be used to shape:
Future PIP rules
How assessments work
Who qualifies
So if your experience has ever been:
Misunderstood
Misrepresented
or just completely ignored
This is where you say it.
You don’t need policy knowledge.
You don’t need perfect wording.
You just need to explain what your life actually looks like, and where the system gets it wrong.
Because decisions will be made either way.
This just decides whether disabled people are actually part of them. Details in bio.

FINAL CALL 🚨
The PIP review is open RIGHT NOW and this is your chance to tell them what it actually costs to be disabled in the UK.
There are concerns about how responses from the online form may be processed, including the potential use of AI or automated systems.
And that matters.
Because your lived experience is complex.
It cannot be reduced to tick boxes or keywords.
That’s why I’m recommending submitting your response by email instead, so your full voice is heard.
You don’t need perfect words.
You don’t need to write loads.
Just tell them the truth about your life.
⏰ Deadline: 28th May
📩 Email details in comments
If we don’t speak up, decisions will be made without us.

The PIP review consultation is now live, but what are they actually asking?
I’ve broken it down in plain English so you can understand the key areas without wading through pages of policy language.
This isn’t a quick survey. It’s detailed, and it matters.
You can respond yourself, or feed your experience into charities and Disabled People’s Organisations who are submitting evidence.
I’ve been working on this for months through the MS Society and wider DPO/charity work, so this is about making it easier for you to engage in a way that works.
Watch to the end for how to access the consultation.

Disabled people call for an independent PIP review; add your name
Disabled people’s organisations have published an open letter calling for the Personal Independence Payment review to be independent and led by disabled people; not chaired by the Minister. Coordinated by DPAC Cymru @DPAC_2 , the letter raises clear concerns about the lack of inclusion and transparency so far.
If you share these concerns, you can add your name. The letter is open for individual signatures.

The #TimmsReview#PIPReview with the 10 people is a farce and not a genuine co-production. The NDA is unbelievable with Government clearly wanting the process hidden. Hidden, because they want don't want the review to come under scrutiny. Nothing suspicious there then?
Official letter from @stephenctimms
He confirms that “a review will examine the PIP assessment criteria - including activities, descriptors and associated points - to consider whether these effectively capture the impact of long-term health conditions and disability in the modern world.”
The review is expected to be completed by Autumn 2026

Just realised I've never filled in a PIP review form. Not entirely sure what I'm doing and want to do it right.
Does anyone have any info from an ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, and mental health point of view?
