I'd like to offer a little marketing advice to everyone, based on my own experiences over the last few years. Lets talk book covers quickly.
There are probably very few covers that could be considered the 'wrong cover'
However the argument could be made that you have the wrong cover for the market you are targeting.
Redwall has 186 different editions, with a huge chunk with different covers, and this is the same for the fellowship of the ring, over 1000 editions.
I understand there is a cost with having a book cover created. You don’t need a cover artist to try something different, but look at the below covers - some times less is more.
There are plenty of tools out there to create something basic, from Paintnet to Photoshop, Kitra or even Canva. You don’t have to have the most amazing artistic book cover. Just something different you can try.
The goal is not to reinvent the wheel, have a look at some of your favourite novels over time, and the different editions and find a style that you like and replicates what you are capable of creating. (You shouldn’t need to pay money to do this).
I have attached two different versions of a cover for my latest novella, that would capture 2 completely different audiences. Your cover is a huge part of your marketing, and where you position it is what’s going to help draw readers in. If you write something memorable, they will come back.
For transparency, I have used the simpler cover only with this novella, but I have marketed with both and had an extremely good result.
