Amazon is screwing almost every brand one by one.
You're next if you still haven't done this yet.
Starting May 31st, Amazon is permanently splitting review pools across product variations.
If your parent listing has children that differ in formula, dosage, generation, material, or fit, those child ASINs stop sharing reviews. Each one starts from zero.
The listings getting hit hardest:
→ Supplements with different dosages under one parent
→ Skincare with different SPF levels
→ Electronics with different RAM or wattage variants
→ Grocery and beverage lines across flavors and formulations
Color variants and pack sizes still pool. Everything else is being decoupled.
COSMO and Rufus are why this is happening.
Amazon's discovery engine and AI shopping assistant need clean, accurate product attributes to surface the right product to the right buyer. Pooled reviews were gaming that, and Amazon decided catalog accuracy matters more than the social proof you spent years building.
The review moat is gone. Here is your 30-day response plan:
Days 1-3 >> Pull your review history by ASIN. Audit Manage Variations. Get a clean baseline on unit session percentages for every child listing that might be affected.
Days 1-7 >> If a split looks like a miscoding error, fix it through a flat-file PartialUpdate. Open a Brand Registry catalog case with your GTIN and spec docs. Do not appeal legitimate splits. Amazon will not reverse them.
Days 1-14 >> Enroll every orphaned child into Vine at the top tier immediately. One lifetime enrollment per ASIN. Get the listing right before you use it.
Days 1-30 >> Turn on every review request channel you have. Follow-Up on Request-a-Review. Manually trigger for Subscribe and Save subscribers.
On advertising: defend your hero ASIN with exact-match Sponsored Products and top-of-search bid increases. Build orphaned children with dedicated SP campaigns.
Budget up roughly 20% and expect TACoS to climb for 60 to 90 days while the new ASINs build momentum.
On the listing side: add a Brand Story carousel and a Comparison Chart to every child. Layer in certifications, founder story, years of selling. Every trust signal matters when the review count is gone.
Pooled reviews were always borrowed time.
May 31st is when the bill comes due.
