With the new Response Mappers project, you can snap geotagged, time-stamped photos of local land cover before and after disasters—filling in gaps satellites miss. How to join: 1. Download the free GLOBE Observer app (observer.globe.gov) Hint: This is a SciStarter Affiliate! Use the same email you use on SciStarter to create an account and visit the settings to activate the connection. 2. Join the NASA Response Mappers team inside the app. 3. Using the Land Cover protocol, snap and upload repeat photos of streets, trees, wetlands—before/after storms (even “no change” helps!). Why it matters: Community-sourced images offer “ground truth” to satellite data, sharpening our understanding of a disaster's real-world effects. Your picture could help emergency managers spot flooded roads, fallen trees, or undamaged areas that might serve as safe routes helping them prioritize cleanup faster. Anyone can participate—students, families, community groups. 💧 August is National Water Quality Awareness Month! 💧 💧🧪 The @EPAregion2 runs the Equipment Loan programs to provide access to professional water testing tools to local governments, organizations and universities in NY, NJ, PR and USVI and eight Indian Nations. #DYK In Puerto Rico and USVI, some people rely on cisterns for drinking water. In July, personnel from @EPAregion2’s Laboratory Services & Applied Science Division conducted a hands-on training at the @UPRHComunica to support the launch of a new Equipment Loan Center for water quality monitoring!
