Watch the highlights from the Phase II Close-Out Meeting of the @MastercardFdn Saving Lives & Livelihoods Pathogen Genomics Initiative in Nairobi. Through the support of the Mastercard Foundation, the Saving Lives and Livelihoods initiative transformed Africa’s ability to detect, track, and respond to infectious disease threats. This partnership laid the foundation for a continent-wide genomic surveillance architecture that will continue to protect Africa for years to come. Key milestones achieved through Mastercard Foundation’s SLL Pathogen Genomics initiative: 🔹 Strengthened pathogen genomics and bioinformatics capacity across the continent, supporting over 80 laboratories and training more than 1,500 experts. 🔹 Empowered public health professionals to lead sustainable genomic surveillance and outbreak response. 🔹 Expanded data-sharing platforms and analytical workflows for rapid detection, sequencing, and reporting of priority pathogens, supporting 24 countries to report on 56 outbreaks since 2021. 🔹 Advanced continental health security, establishing the Africa Pathogen Genomics Surveillance Network connecting all 54 AU Member States. Discover how this initiative has advanced public health preparedness in Africa and hear from the experts and partners driving this transformation. @MastercardFdn, @AfricaCDC #SavingLivesAndLivelihoods #PhaseII #PathogenGenomics #AfricaCDC #PublicHealth #GenomicSurveillance
