I’m super hyped and happy to announce that I’m getting even deeper into helping agents reason about software quality as I join @getqatech! Since I’ve started working on PerfLab and then PerfAgent this has become an obsession. Now I get to do that full-time and I could not be more thrilled to find such a great alignment. Expect more awesome stuff soon on agents, web performance and software quality!

Oh great. I’ll take a look. Yesterday I had a meeting where the founder asked about getting more performance info on frontend. I handle backend but I told the frontend dev to enable sentry tracing. If we start actually using Perflab I’ll let you know.

It's time for something Neuve neuve: [adj] new (brand new) It's time to share a concept that I'm beginning to obsess about and am keen on pursuing. It's about the future experiences and web browsing. TLDR: Read the Neuve Browser Manifesto here: notion.so/Neuve-Browser-Mani… After spending the last year and a half building PerfLab, and the last 3 months building PerfAgent. I became more ingrained into browsers and how they work. After an introductory chat with @seb_thunman, I was struck by this concept. It felt like such a natural evolution of what I was building and how much into browsers I'm getting. After seeing @liadyosef and @kentcdodds threads on how future interactions can be shaped and how much simpler and yet powerful interfaces and experiences on the web can be. The basics for the concept: A generative, agentic web broswer. Think of V0 MCP Agentic Browser AI dev tools = Personal web achieved. Bringing forward a new way to build, interact with and even think about the web. Seeing how for ever change are our concepts of what anyone can build, imagine, achieve are. How much more personal tools such as @v0 make the web be. Read the full manifesto here: notion.so/Neuve-Browser-Mani… For anyone reading this, a quick introduction about my journey so far. A bit more than a year ago I decided to create my own performance devtool, perflab.io. I've forked @ChromeDevTools and built on top of it a standalone application that create easy to read insights from traces. The timming was perfect, as the Chrome team would announce the future plans for the Performance panel in 2024. After building it I've seen that I ended up building another dashboarding tool, now with more text. So I've started building agent.perflab.io. Rethinking the concept with two goals in mind: remove friction and lower the barrier to entry. Basically building the smallest subset of initial UI for a devtool, removing any restrictions and yet keeping insights and information accessible. Now with the experiences gathered I cannot help but think how web experiences are bound to change. It's time to experiment, and shape a new web.

Now into the final adjustments, highlighting the different sections of time and its animation frames as you click on the different buckets. This will be an interesting experiment to release into PerfLab 😁
How about showcasing what was happening on each bucket of time over the distributions utilizing the screenshots for the given trace....this feature is being quite interesting to implement but I think there's some extra UI 💗 needed, but launching soon

Just as I prepare for my trip tomorrow to #perfnow I finally pushed a small but meaningful update to PerfLab to how the INP event is displayed on the timeline when you highlight it on the trace viewer. More in line with the INP insights overlay native from DevTools 😁

Working on a better breakdown for AnimationFrames on trace entries for PerfLab. There are, for now, some reasons why an animation frame might have gaps in the attribution and those are well documented @nomsternom and @tunetheweb article: developer.chrome.com/docs/we….

After pulling the latest patches from DevTools into PerfLab I've noticed the new Layout Shifts track and oh boy the DevTools team is on fire! It's already enabled on perflab.io but you can enable it with the Layout Shift track experiment (second image)

Learning how to reason and utilize raw trace data is quite powerful. Learning how to do that within DevTools source code for PerfLab is quite an unique experience.

Another exciting new possiblity that I quite believe will forever change how teams work with profiling sessions is the hability to add annotations to trace files! This will soon be made available on the default DevTools experience as well, but it is already available at PerfLab
