A 37-year-old housewife, again without conventional risk factors except LDL-C >200 mg/dL, with significant coronary disease.
Nearly 50% of heart attacks in India occur before the age of 45. Many are preventable with early screening for risk factors like severe dyslipidemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, elevated ApoB and Lp(a).
Pls do yourself (and your family) a favour.
Get screened early by 20–25 years of age, especially if there is family history of premature CAD or sudden death.
Recommended baseline tests:
• Lipid profile including LDL-C and triglycerides
• Lipoprotein(a)
• ApoB
• HbA1c
• hs-CRP
• Echocardiography , ECG
In selected high-risk individuals:
• CT calcium scoring
• CT coronary angiography
Most of these tests are now available even in small towns and taluka centers.
Timely screening can prevent devastating premature heart attacks and sudden deaths
CURRENT guidelines recommend to screen your children before they leave for college.
