Prewashing always gets strong opinions on both sides. I personally always prewash if your quilt will have high contrast fabrics (in your cases reds and whites). Saturated colors are the most likely to have an issue. Some say if you stick to “quilt shop quality” it’s not an issue, but I had a big name fabric bleed badly (it was a Christmas red). I ALWAYS wash batiks, regardless because they have a high propensity to bleed. Even with prewashing, I always use color catchers when I wash the completed quilt.

I’m not prewashing. If your fabric is home dyed you should. Otherwise I’m not worried about it.

🤣 That is like prewashing the dishes before washing them in the dishwasher. For me, you don't have to worry at all. The garage here should have been cleaned out 100 years ago, but nah, not today.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! Unfortunately, dye bleed from black techno knit fabric (I'm assuming that's what they mean by 'neoprene') is extremely common and it's unlikely it will stop bleeding dye. Prewashing does not solve this issue. I also have not figured out a

why are they prewashing the fruit and veggies... that usually makes it go bad faster, just wash it before you're gonna eat it not days ahead??

One of my dogs loves croissant, but of course I'm not feeding him them. So a a great show of favour he gets to lick my plate- he gets a little taste that way (I'm very relaxed about dogs prewashing stuff)

I grew up in a prewashing house but married into a put it in there dirty family. I am not a fan of having to clean the dishwasher. I am going to continue to rinse them real good

Y'all can pry dish prewashing out of my cold, dead fingers. It's not necessary, but my daddy does it, so it's fine. My dishes will be prewashed, organized specifically, & put through the SANITIZE cycle, b/c I want the sippy cup bacteria to be torched through the hot fires of hell

That's only because you don't need to prewash dishes. Scraping loose food of plates is not prewashing.

Not only do you not need to prewash them, prewashing dishes can make dishwashers less effective

But you don’t need to prewash your dishes. I mean, you should dump full pieces of food in the garbage but modern dishwashers do not require prewashing. This is a boomer myth!
