The @EU_Commission will ban companies from destroying unwanted clothing, clothing accessories, and shoes in an effort to reduce textile waste, reports @eprotothema. The ban will come into force on July 19 and will apply to large companies, with the measure to be extended in 2030 to medium-sized companies, the European Commission said today. en.protothema.gr/2026/02/10/… The new rules aim to reduce waste, reduce environmental damage and create a level playing field for companies adopting sustainable business models, and is part of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), a cornerstone of the EU's circular economy agenda. The textile sector is a significant contributor to the global economy, yet the industry uses many of the world’s most precious resources unsustainably, exploiting both people and nature in its wake. We're working to create a circular economy for textiles to transform the way products are bought, used, and reused — reducing greenhouse gas emissions, slashing water use and tackling textile waste. We work with industry leaders in the EU and globally to develop, share, and scale new practices and policies — challenging the status quo and helping the industry do business better. #TransformTextiles #CircularDesign #CircularEconomy #ESPR #TextileEPR WRAP Textiles

Textile waste policy is moving fast — but without joined-up action, collection, sorting and recycling systems risk being left behind. In this webinar, with help from Circle Economy, we'll unpack why better collection systems are the missing link in circular textiles, and what it will take to build solutions that are economically viable, socially just and work for citizens. Drawing on new insights, the session shows why fibre-to-fibre recycling won’t scale without redesigned collection systems, investment in sorting, transparency and coordinated support for a just transition. 👉 Register here events.teams.microsoft.com/e… #TransformTextiles #UKTextilesPact #CircularTextiles #CircularDesign

Over 220,000 tonnes of clothing ends up in Australian landfills each year. We're delighted to be part of this pilot to develop and test new methods for collecting, sorting, processing, and recycling unwanted clothing to reduce landfill waste being delivered with SCRgroup Australia @RMIT and Reground. Our WRAP Asia Pacific team are providing global insights and expertise across textiles collection, sorting, and recycling from our recent work, including our Automatic-sorting for circularity in textiles project in the UK: bit.ly/4ofWQHa This pilot is one of seven new projects rolling out across Australia as part of the Seamless Circular Clothing Textiles Fund. It's hoped these initiatives will provide crucial insights for developing a national clothing stewardship scheme. #TransformTextiles #WRAPTextiles #CircularLiving #WRAPAPAC #WRAPAsiaPacific

8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the fashion and textiles industry, yet only 1% of used textiles globally are recycled back into textile products. The UK Textiles Pact is putting the UK fashion and textiles sector on a trajectory to reduce carbon emissions by 50% and water use by 30% by 2030, through the transition to circularity. This week we've published the The UK Textiles Pact Roadmap, charting the course for navigating the climate-critical years of the voluntary agreement — from 2026 through to 2030. It establishes priority indicators and actions to scale progress and achieve the Pact’s targets, while encouraging flexibility in individual businesses pathways. A new trial, being run at @Primark's Manchester Market Street store, will allow customers to have their clothes repaired within 20 - 30 minutes, reports the @Daily_Express. express.co.uk/news/uk/211439… Our research has shown around 42% of people admitted they threw away clothes they'd prefer to keep because they couldn't find a way to get them repaired. With 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the fashion and textiles industry, we're working with partners to create a circular economy for textiles to transform the way products are bought, used, and reused. Dr Mark Taylor from University of Leeds School of Design joined You and Yours on @BBCRadio4 to share his learnings from our Durability Research Project. Hear him from 42 minutes: bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002j6… The study revealed the durability of the most expensive T-shirt tested was outperformed by one costing just a 30th of its price. Improving industry alignment on durability in the UK will help increase the length of time clothing is kept in use - one of the key ways we can reduce the environmental footprint of the fashion and textile industry. #UKTextilesPact #CircularLiving #TransformTextiles #DurabilityResearchProject #CircularityPathway

A historic turning point for how Europe tackles waste has been achieved. The European Parliament has adopted the revised Waste Framework Directive — a milestone and world-first for Circular Living, something we want to see in every boardroom and every home. To tackle unsustainable levels of waste, the new legislation introduces: ♻️ Binding national food waste reduction targets for every EU member state 🧵 Mandatory national textile EPR schemes, placing responsibility for products right through to end of life on the producers who made them As countries now begin the process of transposing the Directive into national law, we stand ready to support governments and industry. "By adopting the Waste Framework Directive, the EU has shown bold leadership in tackling food and textile waste. Mandatory textiles EPR will reshape how clothes are made and managed, while binding food waste targets will transform how food is valued. Taken together, these measures mark a milestone for Circular Living — one that will ripple far beyond Europe. WRAP has 25 years of experience in this space and a team of experts to support on-the-ground implementation, and we’re ready to share that expertise with EU governments — from helping to shape effective textiles EPR schemes to supporting food waste reduction efforts.” Sofie Schop, Executive Director of WRAP EU. #CircularLiving #EuropeanParliament #EPR #EU #WasteFrameworkDirective #TransformTextiles #FoodWaste #FutureProofFood

The most expensive T-shirt tested for a UK study was outperformed by one costing just a 30th of its price, reports @standardnews The study by the @UniversityLeeds Institute of Textiles and Colour concluded that price has “very little” to do with the durability of most T-shirts sold in the UK, and that spending more money does not guarantee the item will be more hard-wearing. standard.co.uk/news/environm… Our Durability Research Project project is helping improve industry alignment on durability in the UK and increase the length of time clothing is kept in use - one of the key ways we can reduce the environmental footprint of the fashion and textile industry. #UKTextilesPact #CircularLiving #TransformTextiles #DurabilityResearchProject #CircularityPathway

Price has very little to do with the durability of most t-shirts sold in the UK, reveals a new academic study we developed with Leeds Institute of Textiles and Colour (LITAC) as part of the #UKTextilesPact. The LITAC team tested the durability of 47 t-shirts from UK clothing brands, including luxury items. They found there was no correlation between price and durability. Of the top ten best performing t-shirts, six cost less than £15, outperforming many more expensive tees - including the most expensive costing £395. The Durability Research Project has been a three-year collaboration between WRAP, the University of Leeds, and clothing brands and retailers signed up to the UK Textiles Pact. The project is helping improve industry alignment on durability in the UK and increase the length of time clothing is kept in use - one of the key ways we can reduce the environmental footprint of the textile industry. This project is now being adapted for US and EU regions to create greater durability alignment across international needs. With 8-10% of GHGs coming from the fashion and textiles industry, transforming the way that textiles are made, bought and used is essential - to decrease emissions, lower water use and cut pollution. Our signatories have made positive strides over the past three years. Yet the time has come to usher in a new era, a strategic reset. Today Textiles 2030 officially becomes the UK Textiles Pact. Our commitment to the targets and timeline remain the same but we, and our 130 signatories, will be doubling-down on the strategies that will help us hit our ambitious goals – collaborating and setting the stage for even greater impact.
