According to
@statisticsRW Vital Statistics Report 2025, Non-Communicable Diseases (
#NCDs) are now the leading cause of death in
#Rwanda, accounting for nearly half of all deaths. Even more concerning, deaths from
#NCDs continue to rise year after year.
This trend should concern all of us because many of these conditions are preventable or can be effectively controlled when detected early.
Some of the major drivers of NCDs include:
📍Unhealthy diets high in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats
📍Physical inactivity and sedentary lifestyles
📍 Tobacco use in all its forms
📍 Harmful consumption of alcohol
📍 Chronic stress and poor mental health
📍 Late diagnosis and poor control of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes
The good news is that
#prevention starts long before disease develops.
🎯 As individuals, we can:
✅ Choose healthier foods
✅Exercise regularly
✅ Avoid tobacco products
✅ Limit alcohol consumption
✅ Manage stress effectively
✅ Attend regular health check-ups and screenings
🎯 As communities, we can:
✅ Promote healthy lifestyles
✅Support health education initiatives
✅Encourage early screening and treatment
✅ Create environments that make healthy choices easier
🎯 As institutions and policymakers, we can:
✅Strengthen prevention programs
✅Improve access to NCD screening and care
✅ Invest in public health awareness
✅Support policies that reduce exposure to major risk factors
NCDs are not just a health issue they are social and economic challenge that affects families, communities, and the nation's development.
The numbers are rising, but they are not destiny. Through awareness, prevention, early detection, and collective action, we can change this trajectory.
Your health is your greatest wealth. Let's act today for a healthier Rwanda tomorrow.
