I've been discussing generative algorithms with Opus and Codex to recreate this 2D Protobyte from 2004 as a series of enclosed 3D meshes. This is a somewhat trivial coding problem for me, and I assumed it would be for the AI as well. However, this proved not to be the case. Even letting Hermes chew on the problem for a long time, with lots of corrections, didn't get close to an approximate solution. My next attempt is providing the actual algorithms I would use to create it. Stay tuned.

ProtoByte.ts notes: Interactive squareSphere implementation. The form is based on a cube that may be subdivided to approximate a sphere. Internal structural supports help the form return to its original state after deformation. Also, considering enabling different starting forms such as tetrahedron and icosahedron, which can also be subdivided to approximate spheres, with different node distributions. Regardless, geometry in ProtoByte will be fundamentally soft-body , enabling both interactivity and collision response. Fun, right?

The drop tomorrow (@fx_hash_ , 12-9, 3PM EST, 8PM UTC) will reflect a minor (though quite significant personally) internal release. (Edition size and pricing details included at the end of this note.) ProtoByte.ts is not ready for public release. Though, I am getting much closer to pre-alpha testing. This likely will begin with students at both @SMU and @GoldsmithsUoL through demos/workshops and perhaps some select individuals interested in putting it through its paces. To support all this, drops on @fx_hash_ (perhaps other #genart platforms eventually) will be structured/priced to best reflect my own sense of the significance of each collection, vis-a-vis my the overall ProtoByte.ts roadmap. I plan to drop across chains as well. Project Goals: 1. Release a fun, distinct and highly useable library, with advanced behavior for creative coding that supports existing core libs such as @threejs @p5jsArt @ProcessingOrg @babylonjs. 2. Develop and nurture a userbase that both create with and contribute to the overall ProtoByte.ts project. 3. Develop supporting pedagogy to continue my 30 year odyssey in #creativecoding. 4. Why I use AI to code (and can't imagine not doing so, ever again!) The main problem I repeatedly face with any nontrivial code based project is not technical, mathematical, or algorithmic; it is design! Program design has only grown more challenging as languages/environments support greater flexibility in approaches, semantics, paradigms, etc. As just one small example, re: my ProtoByte.ts library, I have been considering the very basic pattern for getting and setting class properties. In a language like TypeScript there are numerous ways to implement this functionality, and all will ultimately produce similar js code. With ProtoByte I want to set up and reinforce a consistent accessor/mutator design pattern that minimizes risk, maximizes functionality and moderates expressivity. There are many related questions I face constantly in building the library and it often takes time to settle on solutions. In the past, these types of questions were what often derailed larger projects (and sucked the joy of the process, as a solo creative coder.) The AI provides fantastic consultative assistance for discussing design concerns. It presents both pos and neg perspectives of different potential solutions vis-a-vis my codebase and intentions. I find this additional AI perspective invaluable, enabling me to move forward with much greater confidence (and even joy) than ever before.
