1981 - just after my ‘O’ Level results. I was reading a load of leaflets from the careers office and SLT just ‘spoke’ to me (excuse the pun😂). I haven’t looked back...

I became interested after covering speech & language development in my English Language A-Level. I hadn’t really heard of SLT so did some googling and realised it merged a lot of my interests. My passion was solidified after volunteering for a stroke group! #RCSLT75 #rcsltfirsts

I realised I wanted to be an SLT when I was around 14 - my grandad had Myasthenia Gravis. He kept a diary of his time in hospital and wrote about not being able to be understood by staff as his speech was slurred, and how SLTs helped him through it. #RCSLT75 #RCSLTfirsts

I realised that I wanted to work in speech and language therapy when I was volunteering with @StrokeAssocNW as a communication volunteer, after my dad had a TIA. The role was so rewarding and everyday was different. #rcsltfirsts #rcslt75
